Kris Rahamad, violinist, violist, composer, and conductor received his Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance from California Institute of the Arts. He has been playing Violin since the young age of 5 and has stayed committed to his passion to making music for the past 18 years. It wasn’t until his time at CalArts that he took up playing the Viola and his composition studies.
Kris has participated in World & U.S. premieres here in LA at the REDCAT theater at Walt Disney Concert Hall and has performed internationally at the National Art Gallery in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.
In 2014, Kris made his debut in the Edinburgh Fringe Theater Festival, both as a composer and as a soloist for Pomegranate Jam. During his participation in the Festival, Kris’ composing/playing was described by Fest Magazine as, “A ghostly original score, from composer David Aguila and Violinist Kris Rahamad, serves the action better than… narration ever could.” Fest Magazine 2014.
Kris returned to the Edinburgh Fringe as a violist for the production of Gunshot Medley, which was nominated for the Freedom of Expression Award in the Edinburgh Fringe 2017, and was recently published in the Second Ed. of Contemporary Plays by Women of Color.
Currently, Kris resides in Pasadena, California where he performs regularly with his newly co-founded chamber orchestra EnsembleVómma of which he is artistic director.
During his musical career, Kris has combined and balanced his work as a professional musician and teaching.
